Welfare Standing Committee

According to the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, the primary duties and powers of the Welfare Standing Committee in the Block Panchayat are as follows:

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 SC/ST Welfare

  • Plan and implement schemes for the educational, economic, and social upliftment of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
  • Supervise housing construction, drinking water, and self-employment schemes for these communities.

👩‍👧‍👦 Women & Child Welfare

  • Formulate and implement schemes for the welfare of women and children.
  • Take measures to improve the functioning of Anganwadis and ensure nutrition distribution.
  • Provide necessary training and assistance for women empowerment and self-employment.

♿ Differently-Abled & Senior Citizens Welfare

  • Coordinate rehabilitation programs, distribution of assistive devices, and scholarships for differently-abled persons.
  • Ensure the functioning of welfare schemes, old-age homes, and daycare centers for senior citizens.

🤝 Social Security Pensions

  • Ensure that various social security pensions (old age, widow, disability, etc.) reach eligible beneficiaries properly and on time.
  • Verify pension applications and identify eligible beneficiaries.
